When it comes to elopements, less can truly be more. Mick and Alizea’s simple elopement at Eagle Rock is a beautiful example of how you don’t need a lavish venue or extravagant details to create a deeply meaningful day. Their focus wasn’t on a long guest list or elaborate decor. It was on each other, their love, and the beauty of getting married at one of the most beautiful places in Lake Tahoe.
Alizea wanted to get married in Lake Tahoe after having lived there as a young adult. She wanted to share this place with Mick, even if it was just for a moment. They had to move their original wedding date once before due to Mick’s deployment being extended, and they only had two short weeks of leave together before he had to report back.
Instead of worrying about it, they embraced the simplicity of their elopement and poured their energy into what mattered most – being together and finally saying I do. With only a few essentials, Mick and Alizea crafted a day that was deeply personal, proving that a heartfelt connection beats any fancy frills.
Mick and Alizea chose to have both – their first look and ceremony – at Eagle Rock. They had the sweetest first touch and first look at the base of the rock. From there, the two made a short hike to the top of Eagle Rock for their ceremony.
The Sierra Nevada mountains provided the perfect backdrop as the sun dipped low, painting the sky in hues of gold and amber. They shared heartfelt vows and exchanged rings, and it was absolutely wonderful to be a part of it.
After the ceremony, they celebrated with a quiet toast of champagne while watching the sunset over the mountains. It was the kind of intimate, authentic experience that’s hard to replicate in larger, more traditional weddings. Their day was a reminder that simplicity often leads to the most unforgettable moments.
This is exactly what I love about being both a Lake Tahoe elopement photographer and planner. I get to help couples navigate the day from start to finish so they can fully enjoy their elopement!
A simple elopement doesn’t make it any less special, and it doesn’t mean sacrificing the things that matter most. You may see that some elopements still have elaborate florals, helicopter rides, and other extras, but if that doesn’t feel like you, you don’t have to do it!
Alizea and Mick’s elopement day is proof that you don’t need a lot of “stuff” to make your wedding day special. Every detail—from the short hike to their champagne toast—was chosen with intention, reflecting their personalities and what they valued most. The biggest focus was their love for one another!
