Why You Want at Least 4 Hours of Elopement Photography Coverage for Your Elopement

Are you planning your elopement and wondering how much photo coverage you really need? Here’s why you need at least four hours of elopement photography coverage and how to know whether you need more!

Why Should You Have at Least 4 Hours of Elopement Photography Coverage?

In my opinion, 4 hours is the minimum amount of time needed to document your elopement properly. People often think they don’t need much photography coverage because they’re eloping and not having a full traditional wedding. But that couldn’t be more wrong! Your day deserves just as much documentation as anyone else’s!

Eloping is about the two of you celebrating your love in a way that feels authentic and true. When you have at least four hours of elopement photography coverage, you get the chance to relax and truly be present. There is no rushing from one moment to the next, no stress about missing those little details that make your day special. Instead, you can fully enjoy each other’s company, laugh, and soak in the experience without feeling the time pressure.

Take Javi and Esther’s elopement at a beautiful vacation rental and Thunderbird Trail, AZ, as an example. We didn’t try to squeeze too much into the schedule. Four hours allowed us to cover one location for the ceremony, portraits, and a small activity—their getting ready photos.

Javi and Esther laughed, helped each other get ready, and were genuinely able to be themselves without feeling rushed. They got to move through the day at a pace that felt right for them.

Eloping at the Thunderbird Trail

I wanted to have a moment for their elopement location – Thunderbird Trail in Arizona. It is an incredibly beautiful spot with very little effort required hiking-wise. It’s easy to get to, but I suggest going early in the morning due to the smaller parking lot and limited shade. The views are breathtaking, and it’s easy to find a private area for your ceremony or intimate elopement portraits.

How to Know if You Need More Than 4-Hour Elopement Photography Coverage?

  • If you’re planning additional adventures like hiking, exploring different trails, or even a killer 4-wheel drive, you’ll want more coverage to capture all those epic moments.
  • Including extra special moments like a first look, cake cutting, and a celebratory picnic will take time. More coverage ensures these moments are documented without feeling rushed.
  • If you want to shoot at more than one location, like moving from a forested trail to a red rock overlook, you will need additional time to travel, explore, and capture amazing photos at each spot.
  • If a few guests are joining you, you will need more time to capture interactions with them and all the group photos.
  • More coverage means you can take breaks, relax, and enjoy the day at your own pace. It gives you the flexibility to breathe, take in the scenery, and not feel like you’re on a strict schedule.
