If you’re planning a destination elopement and visiting months before the ceremony, an engagement session is the perfect opportunity to meet your photographer. It’s a chill way to understand how you’ll work together. Think of it as a test run—getting comfortable in front of the camera, learning my shooting style, and building that all-important trust. This way, when the big day rolls around, we’re already like old friends and you’ll feel even more relaxed in front of the camera.

Having an engagement session can be a great way to work around some of the trickier elopement logistics. For example, if you wanted a specific location for your ceremony, but know it won’t be accessible during a winter elopement, we can visit the spot in summer for your engagement photos! Or maybe a dream location requires a permit for a ceremony and you don’t want to bother with that – most places in Tahoe don’t require a permit for engagement sessions.
When to Take Your Engagement Photos?
Another common question I see is when to take your engagement photos. The best answer is whenever it feels right for you. If you’re traveling to scout elopement locations ahead of time, that’s a perfect opportunity to capture some beautiful moments.
You could also plan your engagement session shortly before your elopement if you’re arriving a few days early to settle in, giving you a chance to get comfortable with the location and your photographer.
Maybe you want to have a variety of vibes in your photos? Consider a summer engagement session if you’re planning a winter elopement or vice versa.
