Katie and Alex’s Donner Lake Lookout elopement was absolutely epic! Their day was beautifully crafted around the locations that held meaning for Alex and their shared desire for an effortless, quiet, and scenic elopement. From their heartfelt ceremony overlooking the lake to a private chef’s dinner back at their lodging, everything about their day was just right for them.
Katie and Alex started their day at Constellation Residences at Northstar, a beautiful spot where they could relax and ease into the day. The morning was slow and peaceful, exactly how they wanted it. They opted for a first look, and the spot I found for them at Donner Summit Trailhead couldn’t have been more perfect.
I scouted several locations for their first look and fell in love with the trailhead’s blend of rivers, forests, and sweeping views. These were exactly the kind of views they had envisioned! Their first look was so intimate and emotional, it was so precious to witness!
Donner Lake is especially significant to Alex, as it holds memories of family hunting trips when he was younger. I knew I had to find them a spot that felt both secluded and meaningful. While there’s a popular overlook at Donner Lake, I took the time to scout and found a more intimate setting away from the crowds. This quieter location was perfect for their ceremony, offering them privacy and stunning views of the lake.
Katie brought a deeply personal touch to the day with a custom-made ring box adorned with the images of their two dogs—one of which had passed away. This dog was their spirit animal, and Katie surprised Alex with the box during their ceremony. It was a beautiful and emotional moment that added so much meaning to their vows.
Rather than a traditional cake cutting, they shared a bottle of champagne gifted to them by dear friends. I love how customizable your elopement day can be! Even as simple as switching out your cake for a bottle of champagne can make your day feel more unique and personal.
After the ceremony and portraits, Katie and Alex returned to Constellation Residences for a private dinner prepared by a chef they hired just for the occasion. Although I didn’t capture this part of their day, I absolutely love the idea and often recommend it to my couples. A private chef allowed them to enjoy a gourmet meal in the comfort of their room, with appetizers waiting for them when they arrived. I know, how awesome is that?
For couples considering a Donner Lake elopement, I can’t recommend this location enough. Whether you’re drawn to the overlook’s breathtaking views or the peaceful forests along the trailhead, it’s an incredible spot that offers seclusion and beauty. I will definitely recommend this location to other couples and can only imagine how incredible a sunrise ceremony would be here!
