Some places just feel sacred. They hold stories in their soil, whispers of the past, and an energy that can’t quite be explained. Erin and Austin’s intimate South Lake Tahoe elopement took place in a location that carries this kind of energy. With their sweet pup Ember by their side and their closest family surrounding them, they created a day that felt deeply personal, intentional, and full of love.
The morning started with Erin and Austin getting ready separately. Austin got ready with their pup at a private Airbnb, and Erin got ready at Desolation Hotel. There was a quiet excitement in the air, the kind of anticipation that comes with knowing you’re about to marry your best friend.
From our first conversation, having some part of their day happen around Taylor Creek was priority numero uno for Austin and Erin. This place is meaningful to them. And while the scenery is freaking gorgeous, it was more about the connection they felt to the land.
When it came to choosing their locations, I scouted multiple options and sent them videos so they could decide what felt right. Ultimately, they landed on a meadow near Taylor Creek for their first look before heading to a secluded beach for their ceremony.
Erin and Austin’s first look at Taylor Creek was everything a first look should be—private, emotional, and so full of love. Just the two of them, surrounded by golden grass, towering pines, and the crisp mountain air. No distractions. No expectations. Just a moment to breathe each other in and soak up the significance of what was about to happen.
For their ceremony, Erin and Austin gathered with their closest family on a secluded South Lake Tahoe beach. It’s one of those places that deserves to be left untagged. Mark Twain once had a house in the meadow nearby, and while there’s nothing left of it now, the land still holds a presence. It feels sacred every time I visit.
One of the things I love most about this location is how naturally private it feels. It’s open yet tucked away, giving couples the space to fully be in the moment. And, of course, I’m always mindful of where I step when shooting here—sticking to footpaths and choosing spots that will bounce back after winter. Because respecting the land is just as important as capturing the beauty of it.
And let’s not forget Ember, their dog, making an appearance! Because let’s be honest—dogs make everything better!!
“Amanda! You are a badass photographer who captured our sweet elopement with such care attention to detail, and loving respect for nature. Grateful and full of love!”
Erin and Austin’s elopement was the definition of why you choose to elope with your nearest and dearest. It was full of warmth, connection, and an ease that you just don’t get with a big, traditional wedding. Erin and Austin weren’t focused on a production. They were focused on each other and celebrating with the people who matter most to them.
And that is why elopements will always have my heart.
